Be A Student Mentor

Provide guidance and support to students in their academic and personal development.

What Exactly You’ll Do: As a mentor, you will guide and support first-generation learners from rural and tribal areas, helping them navigate academic challenges and explore career opportunities. You’ll work closely with students to set goals, build confidence, and improve their skills, while providing personalized advice based on their interests and ambitions.

How It Happens:

  • You’ll be paired with a student based on shared goals and aspirations.
  • Regular virtual check-ins will be scheduled, during which you will discuss progress, address challenges, and provide resources.
  • You will also have access to a mentorship toolkit provided by WES, including study materials, career guides, and scholarship information.

Frequency:

  • Monthly check-ins are the minimum requirement, but bi-weekly or weekly sessions can be scheduled depending on your availability and the student’s needs.
  • An initial orientation and goal-setting session will be held in the first month, followed by ongoing guidance and evaluation.

Timing:

  • Flexible; mentors and mentees coordinate based on mutual availability, generally outside of school hours.

Outcomes:

  • Enhanced academic performance and improved clarity in career goals for mentees.
  • Reduced dropout rates and increased access to higher education opportunities.
  • Development of essential life skills such as communication, confidence, and leadership.
  • Mentors witness the transformative impact of their guidance, contributing to positive changes in students’ lives and communities.
