A Personal Journey of Giving Back
My name is Raswitha and I come from an average income household back in India. We were always told education plays a crucial role in one’s life, my parents always told me “knowledge is power” – the more you learn, the better you are equipped to tackle challenges and seize opportunities. On my 18th birthday, when my parents asked what I wanted, I remember saying, “I have everything I need; can we help someone who truly needs it instead?”. We came across a devoted, semi-blind couple who took in orphaned blind girls, offering them education and essential skills to thrive in the world. I remember donating money and buying clothes for all the girls there. It was at that moment I understood the true value of education.

While most of my friends were preparing for the Chartered Accountancy competency exams, I decided to enroll as well. Completing the course helped me get better job opportunities and higher earning potential. I believe the right kind of education helps in breaking the cycle of poverty that entraps many families and promotes greater awareness of health, hygiene, and nutrition.
During my studies, I connected with a few like-minded individuals who shared a passion for giving back to society. It is said when you truly desire something, the universe has a way of bringing you closer to it and that is when I heard about Arif and his passion to provide better education.
WES Foundation: A Beacon of Hope in Central India

Nestled in a small town at the heart of central India, I heard about this inspiring NGO – WES Foundation, founded by a group of passionate individuals focused not only on providing classrooms but also on creating an environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive. Their aim in transforming the future of young children through education and is on a journey towards improving access to basic educational infrastructure was an inspiration to many. While schools are currently limited, there is a strong community desire to enhance resources and attract dedicated teachers who can support the eager learners and help them thrive. Many children throughout the world face the grim reality of growing up without proper education, limiting their prospects.
Inspiring Projects and Programmes

One of the key successes has been its innovative teaching methods, which adapt to the local context. Instead of relying solely on traditional textbook learning, the DPS integrates interactive activities, storytelling, and games to engage young minds. By blending play with education, children are not only learning basic literacy and numeracy skills but are also developing critical thinking, creativity, and social skills. I was given the opportunity to participate in a few of their programmes and help the teachers in their vocalization skills. The DPS has started multiple initiatives such as gifting a book, teachers training programme, mentorship programme, and many more.
The story of WES Foundation DPS highlights the profound impact that grassroots efforts can have on the lives of children at early stages, thus laying the foundation for more educated and empowered future generations. Their work serves as an inspiration, proving that even in the most challenging circumstances, access to education can light the way forward.
