Fostering Education Through Community Outreach: A Visit to Rukiya’s Home_COP_11_2024

The WES Foundation’s Community Outreach Program (COP) continues to bridge gaps in education by actively engaging with students and their families. As part of the initiative, Isabel Rabadan, a passionate volunteer from Belgium, joined Afifa Mam for a day of outreach. Their mission was simple yet impactful: to spread awareness about the importance of education and encourage families to prioritize learning, particularly in the digital age.

One of the day’s visits was to the home of Rukaia, a bright student who lives with her joint family, which includes her parents, younger brother, and aunt. Rukaia’s father and mother, both fashion designers, warmly welcomed the team and showed great interest in their daughter’s progress. The family’s cooperative and hardworking spirit was evident, particularly in their efforts to support Rukaia’s education.

During the visit, Isabel took the opportunity to encourage Rukaiya to remain committed to her studies, particularly in her computer classes with the WES Foundation. She highlighted how digital literacy is becoming increasingly essential in today’s world, emphasizing that skills in computers not only enhance academic capabilities but also open up vast career opportunities. Isabel’s words were met with enthusiasm and appreciation from both Rukaia and her parents.

Rukaiya’s father, who showed a keen interest in the conversation, agreed on the importance of regular attendance and consistent learning. The team reassured him and Rukaia’s mother that their daughter was making good progress and focusing well on her studies. However, they also emphasized the need for regularity in her classes to ensure she maximizes her potential.

The discussion underscored the broader goals of the WES Foundation—to build confidence in students and make families active partners in their children’s education. By addressing both the opportunities and challenges faced by students like Rukaia, the Foundation aims to create an environment where education becomes a shared priority.

Isabel’s interaction with the family also brought a personal touch to the outreach. Her perspective as an international volunteer enriched the conversation, inspiring both Rukaiya  and her parents to view education through a global lens. Isabel shared examples of how education, particularly computer literacy, has transformed lives in different parts of the world, making a strong case for its relevance in every household.

The visit to Rukaiya’s home was a testament to the power of collaboration between educators, students, and their families. It reinforced the idea that education is not just the responsibility of schools or institutions but a collective effort that involves the entire community.

By the end of the visit, Rukaiya’s parents expressed their gratitude for the Foundation’s efforts and pledged their continued support for their daughter’s education. They also appreciated Isabel’s encouragement and agreed to ensure Rukaiya remains regular in her classes.

The WES Foundation’s Community Outreach Program continues to pave the way for a brighter future by nurturing the bond between education and community. Visits like these remind us that when students, families, and educators work together, the possibilities for growth and success are limitless.
