The Power of Education in Shaping Lives

I am Kavita Chimra , When I first qualified as a Chartered Accountant, I quickly recognized how pivotal education had been in my own life. As a woman, education not only empowered me but also provided me with the confidence and tools to make a meaningful difference. With that realization, I felt compelled to contribute in any way possible to help others access the same opportunities. Education, after all, isn’t just about learning facts—it’s about discovering possibilities and building a future.

The mentors and people I encountered along my journey were instrumental in helping me recognize my own potential. Grateful for their impact, I wanted to create a similar positive influence for others. That desire led me to volunteering, and after applying to various organizations, I found a home with Wazir Education Society (WES), where I felt I could truly make an impact. After a detailed interview with Arif, who wanted to understand my intentions and commitment, we decided I should start by teaching English. However, as I began working with the children, it quickly became apparent that they needed more than just language skills—they needed a broader vision for what they could achieve in life.

Teaching Beyond the Curriculum: Expanding Horizons

Through our sessions, I realized that many children at WES had limited perspectives on their potential. Many of them had only been exposed to a few career paths and were unaware of the diverse possibilities available to them in today’s world. My goal was to broaden their outlook, to show them that their futures didn’t have to be confined to what they already knew.

I encouraged them to see beyond traditional roles and think about possibilities in larger companies, corporate roles, and even entrepreneurship. I wanted them to understand that they are competing on a global scale, not just within their own school or community. By helping them see these opportunities, I hoped to inspire them to dream bigger and work harder toward their goals.

Creating Comfort and Trust in the Classroom

One of the standout aspects of WES is the level of support and organization provided. Every class has a coordinator, and there is always a clear line of communication between teachers, students, and coordinators. This structure has made a significant difference in creating a nurturing and effective learning environment, allowing students to ask questions freely, seek guidance, and receive real-time feedback.

Beyond academics, WES also provides emotional and career counseling, which has been invaluable. On multiple occasions, students have approached me not just for academic advice but for guidance on personal and life decisions. This level of trust, particularly in young children, speaks to the supportive and open environment WES has cultivated.

The Lasting Impact of Education and Mentorship

Education changes lives in fundamental ways. It shapes how people see the world, what they aspire to, and how they approach each day. I hope that the mentorship and guidance we provide at WES equip these children not only with academic knowledge but with values, confidence, and the ability to dream beyond their current circumstances. In envisioning their futures, I see them pursuing higher education, exploring professional careers, and even creating their own paths—all driven by the power of education.

It has been a privilege to witness their growth, and I wish each of them—and Wazir Education Society—great success in continuing this vital work. This journey has truly shown me that even small contributions can have a lasting, transformative impact.
