Bridging World: My Journey from Punjab to Empowering Young Minds through WES Foundation

I am Simran, a 23-year-old astrobiology instructor currently based in Canada, but my story begins in the heart of Punjab, where my passion for education and giving back to society first took root. Growing up in a middle-class family, I always dreamed big, knowing that education was not just a pathway for personal growth, but a powerful tool to make a difference in the world. As I pursued my studies and career in astrobiology, I felt a deeper calling one that went beyond my academic achievements and professional goals. I wanted to contribute to something meaningful and impactful, and that’s when I found the Wes Foundation in 2022.

How WES Found Me: A Chance to Give Back

In 2022, as I was preparing to move to Canada after completing my bachelor’s degree, I was already working as an astrobiology instructor and volunteering for various organizations. Yet, despite these roles, I felt I could do more—something that would allow me to give back to the community that shaped me. My mentor, Dr. Ashwin, introduced me to the Wes Foundation, a nonprofit organization that works to uplift underprivileged children by providing them with education and the skills needed to shape a better future. Their mission struck a chord with me, and I knew instantly that I wanted to be part of this incredible journey.

Volunteering at Dhanpuri Public School: Transforming Lives Through Education

Soon after, I began volunteering as a math instructor for high school students at Dhanpuri Public School in Madhya Pradesh, a school run by the Wes Foundation. Many of the students I taught came from rural and tribal areas, where resources were scarce, and education was not always a priority. Despite these obstacles, what amazed me most was their hunger to learn. These children faced challenges beyond the classroom, yet their resilience and desire to gain knowledge were truly inspiring.

I taught math, but the impact went much deeper than just numbers and formulas. It became a bond—a connection with young minds that were curious, motivated, and determined to rise above their circumstances. I was there to teach, but in many ways, I learned from them—the power of perseverance, hope, and the ability to dream big no matter the odds.

Sparking Curiosity and Inspiring the Future

One of the most memorable moments during my time with WES was a special virtual class in August 2022. The students were fascinated by the subject, and their excitement was palpable. They asked so many insightful questions, each one reflecting their deep curiosity about the universe and their place in it. For me, this was more than just a class—it was a chance to ignite dreams in these young minds, to show them that the world, and even the universe, is within their reach.

WES Foundation: A Catalyst for Change

One of the key reasons I was drawn to the Wes Foundation was because of its founder, Mr. Arif, and his dedicated team. Mr. Arif’s vision and hands-on leadership have been instrumental in shaping my experience. His passion for providing quality education to underprivileged children and ensuring that both students and volunteers are supported throughout the journey truly inspired me. His dedication kept me focused on delivering the best possible education, knowing that I was part of something much larger than myself.

WES is not just about teaching traditional subjects like math or science; it’s about equipping students with real-world skills that will make them employable and empower them to build brighter futures. The organization is committed to introducing these children to new technologies and global opportunities, helping them connect to their surroundings and grow in a world full of possibilities.

The Power of Education: Breaking Barriers and Building Dreams

The impact of Wes is far-reaching. I have seen firsthand how the education provided by this foundation transforms lives. It’s not just about academic knowledge—it’s about giving children the tools they need to dream beyond their current circumstances. These students aren’t just learning subjects; they’re learning to believe in themselves and in the possibility of a future where they can be leaders and changemakers.

For me, my time with Wes has reaffirmed my belief that education is the most powerful tool we have to bring about social change. The students I’ve worked with, many of whom come from families where education is not always accessible, are now beginning to see a world full of potential. They’re gaining the skills they need to break the cycle of poverty and create futures filled with promise.

Looking Ahead: A Future Filled with Possibilities

As I reflect on my journey with the Wes Foundation, I am filled with hope for the future. My vision for Wes is that it continues to expand, reaching more children across the country and empowering them with the education and skills they need to succeed. The more children we can reach, the more lives we can transform, bringing us closer to a world where every child has the chance to dream big and succeed.

Being part of Wes has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, and it’s a journey I will carry with me forever. The dedication of the students, the unwavering support of the staff, and the vision of Mr. Arif have shown me that true change is possible. As I move forward in my own career, I know that the work we’ve done together will always be a source of inspiration.

I am incredibly grateful to have had this opportunity, and I wish the team and the students of the Wes Foundation nothing but success in the future. Together, we’re building a brighter tomorrow—one student, one dream, at a time.
